What causes lower eyelid bags?

Lower eyelid bags are a common sign of aging and can be attributed to several age related factors. As we age, the skin loses its elasticity due to a decrease in collagen production. This can lead to sagging of the skin, especially around the eyes. There are fat pads encircling our eyes to protect the eye (globe) from the bone in which it lives inside. The fat pads around the eyes can redistribute or shift with age and this shift is the cause of bulging or puffiness under the eyes, creating the appearance of bags. In addition, there is loss of volume and bone from the face that also occurs with time. Collectively, these changes around the lower eyelids exaggerate the appearance the lower eyelid bags. With a lower eyelid rejuvenation procedure, we have the ability to address the lower eyelid fat shift, replete volume to the face, as well encourage more collagen production from the skin. It is important that all age related factors are addressed during a lower eyelid rejuvenation procedure in order to restore a more youthful appearance. If you're tired of appearing tired, schedule a consultation to learn more about your treatment options. Be confident in the skin you're in!
